On Wednesday 25th January 2017 The Jane Roebuck Carers Awards were held at Barton Hall, Kettering, Northamptonshire, with over 100 people in attendance. This was the fifth year that I was asked to be the official event photographer, and it’s an event I enjoy enormously, and also find incredibly humbling.
Staggeringly there are over 70,000 known carers just in the county of Northants alone, each providing a vital role in supporting vulnerable people to live in the community. It has been estimated that carers throughout the UK save the state an estimated £132 billion a year.
The awards not only recognise the commitment and selfless hard work of carers across Northamptonshire, but also offer an opportunity for the award winners to enjoy a special afternoon, dedicated solely to them, in the beautiful location of Barton Hall.
Event photography always calls for a variety of different styles on the day, and as well as photographing the official presentations and a large group shot for the next morning’s press release, I also spent some time capturing more natural, candid shots of people enjoying themselves. A few days after the event I supplied the organisers mounted prints for each award winner, which they will pass on to them so that they have a lasting memory of their special day.
